Romantic Comedy Movies That Don't Suck
Description: A novelist struggling with writer's block finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence.
Stars: Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan(writer too!), Chris Messina
Why it doesn't suck: it's such a creative, magical idea, but even in it's fantasy elements relays such truth and struggle to real relationships. That even with the perfect partner, there will never be a perfect relationship.

Description: Sarah begins to confront her shortcomings after she rejects her boyfriend's hasty proposal and soon finds herself in a rebound romance. Meanwhile, her sister Beth is immersed in the details of her wedding.
Stars: Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Martin Star
Why it doesn't suck: It's realistic. Sometimes feeling come, and sometimes they go. Life and love are messy, people are selfish, and unlike most other rom coms this movie doesn't try to hide that.

Description: When a girl attending a Christian high school becomes pregnant, she finds herself ostracized and demonized, as all of her former friends turn on her.
Stars: Jena Malone, Mandy Moore, Macaulay Culkin, Patrick Fugit
Why it doesn't suck: It's actually funny and majorily satirizes the overzealous christian lifestyle every chance it gets. Despite the blatant parody, it's sweet and leaves you thinking and smiling.

Description: Two eighth-graders start to have feelings for each other despite being total opposites. Based on the novel "Flipped" by Wendelin Van Draanen.
Stars: Madeline Carroll, Callan McAuliffe, John Mahoney
Why it doesn't suck: because it's too cute to suck, it's just how you remember your first 'love' as a preteen. Even though it's a fairly recent movie (2010), it feels like a 'classic' from your youth, partially because it was directed and written my the man himself, Rob Reiner.

Description: A young man and woman meet on a train in Europe, and wind up spending one evening together in Vienna. Unfortunately, both know that this will probably be their only night together.
Stars: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy, Andrea Eckert
Why it doesn't suck: well for one it spawned two more movies, (before sunset, before midnight) every 10 years which is awesome. It takes an unrealistic idea of love at first sight, and somehow makes it seems plausible.

Description:A young man is rocked by two announcements from his elderly father: that he has terminal cancer, and that he has a young male lover.
Stars: Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Mélanie Laurent
Why it doesn't suck: it's charming as hell, and shows that love is love regardless of age, gender, or health. Also the main couples meet-cute is one of my favourites.
